POEM

A Bright and Sunny Day

Reflections on emerging from World War Two

A bright and sunny day had found its close
And I who through long winters and grey days
Had felt the chill of earth’s quiescence chose
To wander in the park, where I might gaze
Upon the sun, who rays in parting, kissed
The drifting clouds with red and amethyst

Yes, there is war and yet these beauties stay
Endemic in all Life. So haste the day
When all who walk the world will know the joy
Of these – God’s work which somehow we had missed
